Team for Southampton
Like most, I can't wait to get back to the Prem following the latest international distraction. Interesting selection issues for Moyes this week as he considers whether or not to throw any of the new signings straight into the side and assesses the fitness and freshness of the players that have been away on international duty.

For me, if everyone is fit and available, the only change would be to bring in Zouma for Dawson. He is just such a classy player that I don't think Moyes will waste any time with some kind of gradual introduction.

I fully expect Vlasic to feature in this game. It could well be from the start but I think it's more likely to be from the bench. It's going to be interesting to see whose place he takes - no obvious candidate for me. I expect to see a lot of rotation between Vlasic, Fornals, Benrahma and Bowen for the three spots behind Antonio, with Vlasic gradually establishing himself as a regular starter. Kral, I'm sure, will be fully aware that he has to wait a bit longer, but he could get a debut off the bench in this one if we're comfortably ahead.

Fabianski
Coufal Zouma Ogbonna Cresswell
Soucek Rice
Bowen Fornals Benrahma
Antonio

Subs: Areola, Fredericks, Johnson, Dawson, Diop, Noble, Kral, Lanzini, Yarmolenko.

Interested to see Livramento today. Looks an excellent prospect. Shame we didn't get him from Chelsea.

Walcott and Long? LOL. So we won't be playing Dad's army then. No Ings is the main one.

No Walcott or Shane Long.

I'm confident of this one.

Moyes will almost certainly field an unchanged side and introduce the new signings as the game progresses.

We need Zouma up and running ASAP.
We have Man Utd the following Sunday.
Zouma hasn't played yet this season , 3 games in a week will be a breeze.
Can't really have Dawson against Ronaldo. I know they're virtually the same age but....

Think he will wait to start Zouma, Vlasic and Areola for the Europa game then take it from there.

Think both Zouma and Areola will edge their way into the 1st 11 before Vlasic does.

Where is Vlasic?

Definitely in place of Yarmalenko and I would like to see Areola in place of Fab.

Re: Team for Southampton
Vexed - yes, that is usually the Moyes way. But Lingard went straight in, and I have a feeling Soucek did too

I think that part of the reason that he delays bringing people in is because he wants them properly drilled in “the system.”

This is less important for attacking midfielders than it is for the defensive line, so I think he’ll stick with the current lineup. That plus showing loyalty to a squad that’s done remarkably well is why I would -just- favour Dawson over Zouma for at least one game.

Zouma will be better than Dawson in the long term, but might not be until he’s properly drilled and has built up an understanding with the rest of the backline.

Fab was just that bit slower than i feel Areloa would be,that's the fine margins in the PL.
We have let in 5 goals due to slow reactions from older players in the main.
Time to make the difference
I'm a tad concerned that both Rice and Soucek maybe a bit tired. 3 games for the Czech boys.
Southampton play the high press and they may tire near the end of the game.
I hope the fitness of the boys coming back late won't effect them.
I wouldn't be surprised if Rice or Soucek is rested . One of them for the European games .

Yes, I fucked that up - all fessed up below! Vlasic definitely on the bench and almost certainly brought on at some stage, I would think. I reckon Zouma will start, but many on here disagree - we'll see....

Keep the same team as previous with the new boys getting a run out later if needed

Exile - great thread and thank Christ the Prem is back. It’s good that Moyes now has some actual selection decisions to make. I feel he will stick with most of what we have had these first 3 games. Maybe Zouma for Dawson as that’s obviously the main permanent change for the starting 11. The other signings I would guess will be eased in. This month we have Prem and Euro plus the Cup so Moyes now needs to earn his crust with selections. Antonio will be knobbled sooner than we’d hope.
